I have lived my life by the quote ‘SHE’LL BE RIGHT’ and it has for the most part served me well but over the last few months it has dawned on me that I need an outlet, to get what is in my head, out of my head. Most days I find myself saying ‘DOES THIS SH*T HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE?’ hence THIRTY + was born. This blog is not for self-help or to give advice, it simply outlines the trials, tribulations and jubilation’s of my day to day life.
So, a little bit about me. Born in 1985 into a dairy farming family, I was a child of the LAND, I drank milk from the vat, climbed the silo, went tad-poling with my cousins, rode around on motorbikes and climbed HAY BALES for fun. My parents separated when I was four years old and apart from only seeing Dad every other weekend, my older brother and I had a pretty good childhood. We were well cared for, we didn’t want for much and we were always loved, it may have been portrayed a little differently than you would expect but gosh we were LOVED.
Of course there was the usual school bullying which comes with being a BIG BONED girl, but I always gave as good as I got, and still do. I was a good sportswoman and dancer involved in some extracurricular activity at least four times a week, mostly for the social aspect, the competitive white line fever was just a bonus, something I got from both my parents. I excelled in Primary School, a little less in High School, I would suggest the move to and from Perth when I was 13 and CHANGING, along with my choice of mates and complete lack of respect of authority may have contributed to the cause.
After graduating from Busselton Senior High School I dabbled in study, Accounting, but found myself spending more time playing pool and drinking beers with my friends than attending class. I moved on into the workforce from Customer Service to Barista, Accounts Assistant to Front Office Manager in the Hospitality industry where I remained until I packed up my life and skipped the country to the UK for a 12 month WORKING HOLIDAY, more work, less holiday but I came away with a lifetime of memories.
I am blessed with a wonderful Step-mum who came into my life roughly twenty seven years ago then consequently along came my younger brother and sister. My FAMILY are a tight knit unit; we are very supportive of each other and extremely loyal. When we lost my Gran two and a half years ago this was abundantly clear, when the going gets tough the Dawson’s get going. We have an ability to laugh in the face of tragedy, an incredible asset.
I have been fortunate enough to have traveled extensively with many more countries still on the list. I have a deep want to visit the DEEP SOUTH, Texas, South Carolina, Alabama when the budget will allow. Between travels I managed to purchase a block of land and build a house in the SOUTH WEST where my family originally settled, this is now my nest egg, my back up plan and to date the best life decision I have ever made.
I currently work as a SENIOR PROPERTY MANAGER in a family owned Real Estate company which I have had the pleasure of being apart of for the past 10+ years. My employers and colleagues are also my friends and family. I spend my weekends generally with a glass of wine in hand, surrounded by those who mean the most to me, friends, family and my friendly neighborhood cat TUNA.
My friends would describe me as DEPENDABLE, strong willed, emotionally charged, LOYAL, a bit bossy, funny, organised and a problem solver. I am the PLANNER of the group, I guess they would say I enjoy being in control, sometimes to my detriment. I am surrounded by a large group of incredible men and women whom I have the pleasure of calling my MATES, I am grateful for their friendship each and every day.
I am now comfortably settling nicely into my mid 30’s as a strong, single, independent and believe it or not generally HAPPY WOMAN. The want for a husband and children is still present, but the older I get the LESS emphasis I place on these two things, I sure as hell am not crying myself to sleep because I haven’t ticked those boxes. I am lucky enough to have an abundance of LITTLE PEOPLE in my life who fill that void very easily and I like the fact I am available for my friends and family at most times.
I am excited to share my thoughts, feelings, tips and tricks about my life. I am hopeful THIRY + will entice you to LAUGH, possibly cry, feel all of the feels and most of all enjoy. Whether this BLOG reaches one, two, forty, a thousand or ten thousand I am 100% strapped in for the ride and hope that a few of you, my readers, want to come along with me.
